Terms of Service
Status: Not yet in effect — draft
Plain English wherever possible. Where a clause has a legal meaning that plain English would blur, we keep the legal wording and explain it.
This document is complete in structure but has not been reviewed by a lawyer, and the entity details below are unfilled. Do not rely on it as a contract. If you need terms in place for a procurement or compliance process today, contact us.

1. Who these terms are with
Skill.re (“Skill.re”, “we”, “us”) is operated by [[ LEGAL ENTITY NAME ]], registered in [[ JURISDICTION ]] at [[ REGISTERED ADDRESS ]], company number [[ COMPANY NUMBER ]].
By creating an account or using the platform you agree to these terms. If you are agreeing on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to bind it, and “you” means that organisation.
You must be at least [[ MINIMUM AGE ]] years old to hold an account.
2. Your account
- Sign-in is passwordless: a verified email link, or your organisation’s single sign-on. Keep access to that mailbox secure — anyone who controls it controls your account.
- One account per person. Do not share it, and do not let someone else complete coursework as you. Certificates are issued to a person, and that is the point of them.
- Give us accurate details. Certificates are issued in the name on your profile.
- Tell us promptly at [email protected] if you think your account has been accessed by someone else.
3. Using Skill.re
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to access the platform and the courses you are enrolled in, for your own learning or for the internal purposes of the organisation that enrolled you.
You may not resell access, scrape the platform at scale, bypass access controls, or use the material to build a competing catalog. Normal use — reading, taking notes, downloading materials provided for download — is fine.
4. Courses, cohorts and providers
Skill.re is a marketplace. Courses are supplied by providers — organisations and instructors who publish their own material and set their own standards. We host, deliver and operate the platform; the provider owns the teaching.
- Cohorts. Courses run as cohorts with a start date. Cohort dates, sizes and schedules can change, and a provider may close or reschedule a cohort.
- Assessment. Where a course requires evidence of applied work, the provider’s instructor reviews and decides it. We do not overrule academic judgement, though we will route a complaint to the provider.
- Withdrawal. A provider may withdraw a course. If that happens while you are enrolled, we will tell you and do what we reasonably can to preserve your progress and any certificate you have already earned.
- Accuracy. Course content is the provider’s. We do not warrant that it is error-free, current, or suitable for any particular professional purpose.
5. Certificates
- Certificates are issued to the learner, not to an employer, and remain yours if you change job or organisation.
- A certificate records the program, the level reached and the date. What each level claims is set out in our methodology.
- A certificate is not a licence, not an accredited qualification, and not academic credit, unless an institution independently chooses to recognise it.
- We may revoke a certificate obtained by misrepresentation, plagiarism or account sharing. We will tell you why and hear your side first.
- Where a program sets a renewal period, it is stated on the course before you enrol.
6. Payment
Every course on Skill.re is currently free. There is no subscription, no seat licence and no certificate fee. This section describes what would apply if a provider prices a course.
- Pricing is per course, set by the provider, and is shown on the course page and in the enrolment flow before you commit — never afterwards.
- The price you are charged is the one calculated by us at checkout, including any discount or coupon, in the currency shown.
- Refunds follow the refund policy stated on that course. Where none is stated and the law gives you a right to cancel, that right applies.
- A course you have already completed stays completed, and any certificate you earned stays valid, regardless of later pricing changes.
7. Content you submit
You keep ownership of everything you submit — proof of work, notes, reviews, profile content, messages to your squad.
You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce and display that content solely to operate the platform: showing your submission to the instructor who must grade it, your profile to people who can see it, and your review on the course it concerns. We do not sell it, and we do not use it to train third-party models.
You confirm you have the right to submit it, and that it does not infringe anyone’s rights or contain confidential information you are not permitted to share. Do not submit client-confidential or personal data belonging to other people as proof of work.
8. Our content and providers’ content
The platform, its design and its code belong to us. Course material belongs to the provider that published it. Neither may be copied, redistributed or republished except as these terms allow, or as the provider separately permits.
If you believe material on Skill.re infringes your copyright, write to [email protected] with enough detail to identify the work and the URL, and we will act on it.
9. Acceptable use
Do not:
- harass, threaten or abuse other learners, instructors or staff, including inside squads and cohort discussion;
- submit work that is not yours, or have someone else complete assessments for you;
- upload malware, or content that is unlawful, defamatory or infringing;
- probe, scan or test the security of the platform except as our disclosure policy permits;
- use automated means to extract the catalog or course content;
- misrepresent a Skill.re certificate — for example describing it as an accredited qualification or a licence.
We may remove content and suspend accounts that breach this section.
10. Availability and changes
We work to keep Skill.re available but we do not offer a contractual uptime guarantee, and we have no SLA. The platform is provided “as is”. We may change, suspend or discontinue features, and we will give reasonable notice of changes that materially reduce what you already have.
11. Ending your account
You may close your account at any time by writing to [email protected]. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, or where we are required to by law; except in serious cases we will tell you first and give you a chance to respond.
On closure you lose access to the platform. Certificates already issued remain valid and verifiable. What happens to your personal data is set out in the Privacy Policy.
12. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Subject to that: we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of opportunity, or loss arising from a decision you or your employer took on the basis of a course. Education is not advice — a course on a regulated subject is not legal, medical, financial or professional advice, and completing it does not qualify you to practise.
Our total liability is limited to [[ LIABILITY CAP ]]. Since the service is currently free, in most cases that is the amount you have paid us, which is nothing.
13. Disputes and governing law
Talk to us first: most things are fixable at [email protected]. These terms are governed by the laws of [[ JURISDICTION ]], and the courts of [[ JURISDICTION ]] have exclusive jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not remove the protections of your local law.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For material changes we will give notice by email or in the product before they take effect. Continuing to use Skill.re after that means you accept the updated terms; if you do not, close your account.
