What a Skill.re certificate actually means
A credential is only as good as the standard behind it. Here is the standard, the evidence rule, and the things our certificate deliberately does not claim.
| Level | Name | What it claims you can do | How it is evidenced |
|---|---|---|---|
| L1 | Foundations | You know the vocabulary and can follow a conversation in the field. | Reading and comprehension checks. |
| L2 | Applied | You can do the work on guided problems with a worked path. | Exercises with a defined correct shape. |
| L3 | Practitioner | You can do the work on real problems where the path is not given. | Submitted evidence of applied work. |
| L4 | Lead | You can make the judgement calls and defend them to others. | Evidence plus reasoning, reviewed by an instructor. |
| L5 | Strategic | You can set direction and standards that other people work to. | Substantial applied work, reviewed. |
Each level is its own course with its own cohort and its own certificate. Not every program runs all five, and you can enter at the level that matches you.
Above L2, a human reads your work
This is the line between a completion record and a credential.
L1–L2 — machine-checkable
Progress is tracked per lesson and knowledge is checked with quizzes and exams that grade server-side. These levels attest that you covered the material and could answer questions about it.
L3–L5 — instructor-reviewed
You submit evidence of applied work and an instructor reads it and returns a decision. These levels attest that someone qualified looked at what you produced and judged it sufficient.
How someone checks a certificate
The certificate is issued to the learner
Not to an employer or a cohort. It belongs to the person who earned it and stays with them if they change job, team or organisation.
It records program, level and date
Not a generic “course completed”. A certificate names the program, the level reached, and when — so it can be read against the table above.
It carries a link anyone can open
A hiring manager does not need a Skill.re account to check it. They open the link and see what was issued, to whom and when.
Learning hours are recorded separately
Time spent is tracked per lesson and can be exported. Where you report CPD, CPE or CEU hours, that record is what supports the number.
What it does not claim
Every credential has boundaries. Pretending otherwise is how credentials stop meaning anything.
- It is not a licence. It does not grant any regulatory right to practise.
- It is not accredited by a national qualifications authority.
- It does not transfer as academic credit unless an institution independently chooses to accept it.
- It does not expire silently — where a program sets a renewal period, that period is stated on the course.
- It does not measure anything the course did not assess. Read the level definition, not the certificate title.
- It is not a substitute for an interview. It is evidence, not a verdict.
Questions about the standard
Who decides whether my submitted work passes?
The instructor who owns the course. They see your submission in a review queue and return a decision. If you disagree with an outcome, contact us — we will route it to the provider.
Can I skip to L3 if I already work in the field?
Yes. Levels are separate courses; you can enrol at the level that matches you. If you overreach, the evidence requirement at L3 and above will tell you quickly.
Does every course award a certificate?
No. Where a course awards one it says so on the course page before you enrol.
What stops someone submitting work they didn’t do?
An instructor reading the submission is the main control, and it is a real one — reviewed work is much harder to fake than a multiple-choice score. We do not claim it is proctored, and we would rather say that than imply a rigour we have not built.
Is the certificate free?
Yes. There is no separate issuing or assessment fee. Pricing →
